What is a dental Assistant?
Dental Assistants, or Certified Dental Assistants, are responsible for providing hands-on support to Dentists and completing pre-procedural and post-procedural work so they can more efficiently care for patients. Their duties include updating patient records, sterilizing and organizing dental tools and assisting during dental procedures including restorative, surgical, endodontics, orthodontic and removable dentistry. A Dental Assistant is a crucial member of the Dental team to provide efficient and quality care to the patients.
Dental Assistants work at dentist’s offices, orthodontic practices and dental surgery centers to help administer patient care during dental procedures. Dental Assistants educate patients about procedures, give instructions for oral care, take x-rays and other scans. They set up dental exam rooms, assist during cleanings and fillings and hold dental instruments while the Dentist works. They also assist the dentist during their procedures by handing them instruments and materials by anticipating their needs throughout the appointment. That is why a hands on training curriculum such as ours is crucial to mastering the skills necessary to become a highly trained Dental Assistant.
